~ Reflections on 2009 ~

This is the time when I reflect on all that has happened good and bad this past year on the eve of a new year. Being the eternal optimist, I anticipate the coming of 2010 hoping it will herald positive changes on many fronts.

2009 was a very challenging year not only for me, but for many others I suspect. The continuing economic recession did not paint a pretty picture for me and many other full-time artists. As professional artists we create our art to make a living and survive. I was blessed and lucky that most of my art this year sold and went to good homes. I'm hopeful that 2010 will show signs of improvement on the economic front.

I was able to keep most of my 2009 new year resolutions as well. I took more chances with my art and tried different techniques. I started a sensible exercise routine that I could live with and lost 25 lbs. Being more active has given me a renewed sense of well being and balance in my life. I've also learned to say no and take more time for myself.

There were health challenges for my closest family members that was also a wake-up call to try to live a more healthful lifestyle.

I would be remiss to not mention again how heartbreaking it was for me with Michael Jackson's untimely passing. Michael's creative legacy has had a huge impact on my life and my art. I miss him dearly and suspect I always will. I'm hoping that after all the love and positive things he gave this world, he's finally at peace. One person can only endure so much pain for so long.

I'm thankful for my health, family, friends, and collectors of my art. It helps to have such a great support network. ~ THANK YOU!
