Cuba defeats USA 8-7 in the Quarterfinals of the 2011 Baseball World Cup



It was a very close game, but in the end Cuba prevailed 8-7 over the American squad and it has now eight straight victories and no losses.

Here is how the Cuban batters performed: Castillo (5-3), Bell (4-1), Cepeda (4-3) Despaigne (4-2) Gourriel (4-3) Abreu (4-3) Pestano (4-1), Arrebarrena (4-1). Total numbers of hits for Cuba: 17. Despaigne connected a home run, and Abrue and Castillo had doubles.

The winning pitcher for Cuba was Norberto Gonzalez, his first victory in the tournament. Yadier Pedroso pitched the last three innings and was credited with the save.

Cuba will play today at 8:30 p.m. against Panama at Omar Torrijos Stadium.
